Industry Insights & Guides
Frequently Asked Questions
What wool weight is best for sweaters?
Lightweight wool (150-200 GSM) for layering sweaters. Medium weight (200-280 GSM) for classic knitwear. Heavyweight (280-350 GSM) for chunky knits and outerwear. Merino wool can go lighter while maintaining warmth.
Does wool always itch?
No. Fine-gauge Merino wool (17-19.5 microns) is very soft and non-itchy. Regular wool (25+ microns) can irritate sensitive skin. Wool-cotton or wool-cashmere blends reduce itching while maintaining warmth.
Can wool garments be machine washed?
Superwash wool (treated to prevent felting) can be machine washed on delicate cycle. Untreated wool should be hand washed or dry cleaned. Machine washing untreated wool causes shrinkage and felting.
Is wool fabric expensive?
Yes, wool is premium-priced. Regular wool is 2-3x cotton cost. Merino wool is 3-4x. Cashmere is 8-10x. However, wool's durability, warmth-to-weight ratio, and natural properties justify the investment for quality brands.
What's the MOQ for wool garments?
200-300 pieces minimum for wool knitwear due to specialized machinery and higher fabric costs. Wool-blend options (wool-acrylic, wool-polyester) may have lower MOQs at 150 pieces.
